Analysis

We can use the Track Titan software to compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Turn 8. This corner is a hairpin to the left that comes after a long straight. Getting the racing line right is very important for this hairpin, which in this case the HYMO driver does better than the community driver, going 0.2 seconds faster through this corner alone.

From the braking data, we can see that the HYMO driver (in light blue) utilises trail braking. They also use a lot more of the track on the entry to the corner. This combination allows for more speed to be carried through the corner without sacrificing the racing line on the exit. In fact, they get a perfect exit, using all of the track and getting on the throttle as early as possible. On the other hand, the community driver uses less of the track on entry and exit, effectively making the corner tighter. This means they can’t carry as much speed, and they have to be more patient when getting on the throttle. In this situation, they lost around 2 tenths of a second, but this mistake could easily cost more time.

Hot Laps Top Tips

Getting on the throttle early is a key technique in achieving a fast lap time. It’s all about understanding your car’s balance and maximizing its potential. As you approach the apex of a corner, start applying the throttle gradually. This will shift the car’s weight to the rear, increasing the grip on your rear tires and allowing for a faster exit.

However, it’s crucial to remember that every car behaves differently. Some cars may have a tendency to oversteer when the throttle is applied too early or too aggressively. Start by applying the throttle early in a controlled manner, and then gradually increase the aggressiveness as you become more comfortable with the car’s response.
