Audi R8 LMS EVO II Valencia HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Valencia in the Audi R8 LMS EVO II driven by HYMO.

The Track

Located in the city of Cheste, Spain. The Valencia track is a highly technical circuit. Featuring some very technical sections such as the Jaume Masiá section. You will need your car to be properly set up to take them as fast as possible. Luckily HYMO has got you covered with the setup used in the reference video. HERE

The Valencia track, also known as Circuit Ricardo Tomo. Was built in 1999 mainly for MotoGP, which explains the technical nature of the circuit. The track has been used as a test track for Formula E and now hosts the Valencia ePrix.

Analysis

Using the Track Titan software to compare the HYMO lap to a community lap we can see that for turn 1 we can see that the HYMO driver (orange) gains 0.39 seconds. Most of the time is being gained in the braking zone.

Looking at the braking graph, we can see that the HYMO driver (orange) brakes a little bit later than the community driver. Not only that, the HYMO driver utilises trail braking much better than the community driver. Using the trail braking technique allows you to break later and get more rotation from the front end of the car. Learning and applying this technique can give you a lot of time in your lap time.

You can analyse every other turn on the Valencia circuit using the Track Titan platform; see reference lap. HERE

Sim Racing Top Tips

You should drive practice driving off the racing line. Why? You may wonder. When you are driving against another driver there is a big chance you won’t be driving on the ideal racing line. Therefore you might not know if the braking point changes or where the grip in the corner is. let's fix that!

To practice driving off the racing line, you can go into a practice session with your friends or against A.I. and try to always be side by side throughout the whole lap. When you have experience doing this you will feel more comfortable when it happens in a race scenario. You might even figure out a sneaky tactic that someone might not expect.
