Audi R8 LMS EVO II Zandvoort HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Zandvoort in the Audi R8 LMS EVO II driven by HYMO.

The Track

Located in the dunes of The Netherlands, Zandvoort is a highly technical track. With fast sweeping corners like t7 but also slower corners like t12. To make sure you are as fast as possible. You will need to have your car set up properly to take these corners as quickly as possible. Luckily HYMO has got you covered with the same setup that is being used in the reference video. HERE

Zandvoort hosted its first race ever in 1948. and hosted the Dutch Grand Prix from 1948-1952. 36 years later Formula 1 returned to the Zandvoort track after major adjustments to the track surface to make sure it could handle the powerful modern era of F1. Gt3 cars have been driving on this circuit since 2014.

Analysis

Using the Track Titan software to compare the HYMO lap to a community lap we can see that for turn 10, the HYMO driver gains 0.16 seconds. This is a long left-hander that requires a tight line to achieve the fastest cornering speed possible while still getting a good exit for the upcoming back straight. According to the data, most of this time under braking and during the entry of the corner.

Looking at the braking graph, we can see that the HYMO driver (orange) brakes slightly less than the community driver. We can also see that the HYMO driver uses trail braking. Because the community driver did not trail brake and instantly dropped the brakes from 100% to 0%, A lot of potential rotation in the front wheels was lost, which means the car will understeer. Because of this understeer, the community driver cannot go on the throttle as soon as the HYMO driver without going off track.
