BMW M4 GT3 Misano HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Misano in the BMW M4 GT3 driven by HYMO.

The Track

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, located in Italy, has a rich history in motorsports. Originally opening in 1972, the circuit has undergone several renovations, including a major one in 2006 which reversed the track direction. Hosting a variety of events, notably motorcycle races like MotoGP, it's a staple in the racing calendar.

The circuit is characterised by its technical nature, featuring a series of tight corners and short straights, demanding precision and skill. It's particularly challenging for maintaining high speeds while navigating its complex layout, making it a favourite among racers seeking a rigorous test of their abilities.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap in blue to one of the Track Titan community drivers through the final corner. You can see below that the community driver does not make the best use of the braking zone. They get on the brakes a little early but don't commit hard enough which costs them in deceleration rate. They also lose out on minimum speed compared to the HYMO lap. The total loss in this section is over 0.1s.

Sim Racing Top Tips

In racing, the preload differential setting impacts how power is distributed between the driven wheels. A higher preload ensures more consistent power distribution, improving traction and stability, especially during cornering. However, too much preload can lead to understeer. Adjusting the preload differential requires balancing traction and handling, and it varies based on the track, car setup, and driving style. It's important to experiment with different settings to find the optimal balance for each racing scenario.
