BMW M4 GT3 Mount Panorama HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Mount Panorama in the BMW M4 GT3 driven by HYMO.

The Track

Mount Panorama Circuit, located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, opened in 1938. It's known primarily for the Bathurst 1000 touring car race and has also hosted the Bathurst 12 Hour event. The track is unique as it's a public road when not being used for racing.

Characteristically, Mount Panorama is a blend of long straights, like the Conrod Straight, and tight, technical sections, including the notorious Dipper. The circuit's elevation change, particularly at Skyline and the Esses, adds to its challenge, requiring drivers to balance high-speed skills with precise technical driving.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap in blue to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Segment 2. The data reveals that the community driver is doing well with the braking and throttle points. However they are losing out on minimum speed compared to the reference. The majority of this is because they don't run out as wide as they could have on the exit to carry speed up the hill. Doing so could have gained them up to 0.1s with increased minimum speed.

Sim Racing Top Tips

To manage a car that tends to oversteer:

  1. Smooth Steering: Make gradual and smooth steering inputs to avoid sudden weight shifts that can exacerbate oversteer.
  2. Throttle Control: Be gentle with the throttle, especially mid-corner, to avoid losing rear traction.
  3. Braking Technique: Brake before entering the corner to ensure the car is stable when turning.
  4. Weight Balance: Adjust the car's setup to distribute weight/downforce more evenly or towards the front.
  5. Practice Counter-Steering: Learn to counter-steer effectively, steering into the direction of the slide, but be cautious to avoid over-correcting.
