BMW M4 GT3 Nürburgring HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Nürburgring in the BMW M4 GT3 driven by HYMO.

The Track

The Nürburgring, located in Germany, was opened in 1927. It's comprised of two primary tracks: the Nordschleife (North Loop) and the Grand Prix circuit. The Nordschleife is about 20.8 km long and famously challenging. The Grand Prix circuit, used for Formula One, is shorter but maintains the complex nature of the original track.

The Nordschleife's layout is renowned for its complexity, with over 70 turns and significant elevation changes. It's a track that requires skill and respect, testing the limits of drivers and vehicles. The Grand Prix circuit, while more modern, also features challenging sections, demanding precision and technical driving skills.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap in blue to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Turn 1. Here we see an example of a classic mistake people can make under braking. The braking trace below reveals that the community driver brakes a little early, which it looks like they realised, because they appear to lift off the brakes to try to undo the mistake. However, in doing so they end up overdoing the lift and then still go to deep into the corner. If you realise you are braking to early it is important that you don't overcompensate and at least nail the apex. The community driver lost 0.2s here.

Sim Racing Top Tips

Bad habits in sim racing often include over-aggressiveness, such as braking too late or trying to overtake in risky situations, leading to accidents. Many sim racers also tend to ignore proper racing lines, focusing solely on speed rather than technique. Another common issue is failing to adapt to different car characteristics or track conditions, leading to inconsistent performance. Additionally, neglecting the importance of practice sessions and jumping straight into races can hinder the development of essential skills and strategies. Over-reliance on driving assists can also impede the learning of fundamental driving techniques.
