BMW M4 GT3 Suzuka HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Suzuka in the BMW M4 GT3 driven by HYMO.

The Track

Suzuka Circuit is a renowned motorsport race track located in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, Japan. Known for its unique figure-eight layout, it presents a challenging mix of high-speed sections, tight chicanes, and complex corners. Suzuka is a staple in both Formula One and motorcycle racing, and it also hosts important events in the GT3 calendar. Drivers particularly admire Suzuka for its demanding sections like the intricate 'S' curves and the exhilarating high-speed 130R corner, making it an excellent test of driving prowess and vehicle agility.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap in blue to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Segment 8 (Spoon). Here we see the consequence of braking too hard on kerbs. The community driver appears to be matching the reference through the first part of Spoon, however, as they turn into the second part they downshift and hit the brakes harder than the reference. This gives them a small snap of oversteer via the brakes and the gearbox jolt. The result of this is they go wide on entry and are forced to delay their throttle application. The diff to ref graph is heavily impacted by this small error, reaching almost 0.4s. The advice would be to be cautious on the brakes on kerbs and consider staying in 3rd gear for stability and drive out.

Sim Racing Top Tips

To manage bumps in GT3 racing or sim racing like Assetto Corsa Competizione, focus on:

  1. Soften Suspension: Adjust dampers to a softer setting for better bump absorption.
  2. Optimise Tyre Pressures: Lower tyre pressures can improve grip over bumps.
  3. Adjust Driving Line: Find lines that minimise the impact of bumps.
  4. Smooth Braking: Brake gently over bumps to maintain stability.
  5. Gradual Throttle: Apply throttle smoothly to avoid unsettling the car.
  6. Steady Steering: Keep steering inputs smooth and controlled.
  7. Practice: Learn the track and how your car handles bumps, adapting your driving style accordingly.

Each car and track might need different adjustments, so experiment to find the best balance.
