Ferrari 296 GT3 Misano Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Misano in the Ferrari 296 GT3 driven by HYMO.

The Track

Misano World Circuit, situated near the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Italy, boasts a blend of high-speed stretches and demanding chicanes. Officially opened in the 1970s and later dedicated to MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli, the 4.2-kilometre track features 16 turns. Misano's layout demands precision, with its mix of long straights and technical corners challenging drivers to maintain a delicate balance between speed and control, making it a prominent venue for both motorcycle and GT3 racing events.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap in blue to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Segment 9. In this segment the community driver has fallen behind the reference in the first phase of braking. This segment is interesting because the braking phase is split up into two parts. One for the first kink and then again for the hairpin. This is because you don't really want to be braking and turning but rather wait until the car is straight again to get the most deceleration. The community driver does too much of this braking in the first part which leaves them too slow through the first kink. They then brake at the same time as the reference for the second part - but they are going a lot slower at this point so this is effectively too early and they continue to lose time. They should have at least mitigated the damage of braking early in the first part by braking later in the second part but they repeated their mistake. The overall loss of time in this segment was 0.15s.

Sim Racing Top Tips

Mastering car setups in sim racing, like in Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC), is crucial for enhancing performance. Each adjustment, from tyre pressure and suspension settings to brake bias and aerodynamics, can significantly impact your car's handling. It's essential to understand how these modifications affect vehicle dynamics. Experimenting with setups in practice sessions helps you feel how changes in camber angles or anti-roll bar stiffness alter your car's responsiveness. Use telemetry data to analyse performance impacts, ensuring your adjustments are data-driven and tailored to each track's unique characteristics.
