Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 Barcelona HYMO Hot Lap Analysis
Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Barcelona in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driven by HYMO.
The Track
Mastering the intricate, technical aspects of this circuit can be a challenge when setting up your car. Negotiating turns like Elf, La Caixa, and Campsa demands a delicate balance. Luckily, HYMO has your back, offering the exact setup featured in this impressive lap – available for you HERE.
Established in 1991, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya stands as a globally renowned racing venue. Hosting the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix annually since it was built, the track showcases a mix of elevation changes, sweeping turns, and challenging blind corners. It has also been a fixture in the FIA World Endurance Championship since 2012.
Analysis
Let’s use the Track Titan software to compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Turn 5. This corner is a long downhill left hander with a very tricky braking zone. The most important thing to get right here is the racing line. It may seem faster to turn in late and get a better exit, but in most cases an early turn in will be more beneficial.
Looking at the braking graph, we can see the HYMO driver (in light blue) utilises trail braking. This helps them to rotate the car into the corner early while also keeping up more momentum. They then get on the throttle smoothly to keep the car stable, which helps them pick up more exit speed. The community driver on the other hand, doesn’t use trail braking, and turns in too late, causing them to have to slow down more, which also hurts their exit speed, costing them 0.249 seconds through this corner.

Hot Laps Top Tips
One key aspect of sim racing that can vastly improve your hotlapping is mastering the braking technique. In the virtual world of sim racing, understanding how to effectively use the brakes can significantly decrease your lap times. This isn't just about knowing when to brake, but also how to modulate braking pressure to maintain control while slowing down the car as quickly as possible.
The use of trail braking, a technique where you gradually decrease your braking pressure as you turn into the corner, can be a game-changer in hotlapping. This technique allows the car to carry more speed into the corner and facilitates a smoother and quicker exit. It requires practice to perfect, but once mastered, it can lead to substantial improvements in your lap times.
