Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 Brands Hatch HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Brands Hatch in the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driven by HYMO.

The Track

This challenging and technical circuit demands careful car setup, especially navigating through Druids, Graham Hill Bend, and Surtees. Achieving the right balance can be tricky, but fear not – HYMO has you covered with the exact setup featured in this impressive lap video available HERE.

Established in 1950, Brands Hatch is a globally renowned racing circuit, hosting the Formula One British Grand Prix 12 times since 1964. The track is characterised by its sharp turns, elevation changes, and demanding corners like Paddock Hill Bend, Druids, and Clearways. Brands Hatch has also been a key venue for the FIA World Endurance Championship since 1953.

Analysis

Using the Track Titan software, we can compare a community driver to the HYMO driver through Turn 7. This is a very fast right hand corner that requires full commitment and a perfect racing line to get the fastest lap time.

We can see from the braking data that the HYMO driver (in light blue) does a single sharp press of the brakes on the entry. This helps to slow the car enough to make the corner, as well as shifting the weight over the front wheels, helping to rotate the car through the corner. They then get on the throttle early to keep up momentum and get an ideal exit. This, combined with a perfect line cutting the inside of the corner, results in them being over 3 tenths faster through this corner alone. The community driver’s mistake here was firstly, braking for too long which slowed the car too much. They then didn’t cut enough of the apex meaning they were slower on the exit of the corner and down the next straight.

Hot Laps Top Tips

One of the most impactful aspects of sim racing that can help drivers shave precious seconds off their lap times is mastering the art of braking. In both real-world racing and its virtual counterpart, knowing exactly when and how much to brake can mean the difference between setting a new personal best and losing control at a critical corner. High precision in braking allows you to carry more speed through the apex and accelerate out of the turn sooner, which cumulatively can lead to faster overall lap times.

To master the braking technique in sim racing, it's essential to get familiar with the concept of 'trail braking.' This involves applying the brakes firmly when you first begin to approach a corner and then gradually releasing them as you turn into the corner. This technique helps to maintain more grip at the front tires, providing better control and allowing for a tighter line around the bend. Effective trail braking requires practice to understand the limits of your car and the dynamics of the track. Sim racers who invest time in honing their braking skills often find that they can enter and exit corners with greater speed and control, ultimately leading to consistently faster laps during hotlapping sessions.
