Lando Norris vs Max Verstappen - Race Engineer Analysis

We decided to put real-life f1 data into Track Titan to analyse exactly how drivers differ from each other. As pre-season testing has now finished for the 2024 season, I decided to take a look at how Max Verstappen and Lando Norris differed in the afternoon session on the first testing day.

As always with testing, the lap times themselves don’t mean much, but it’s still useful to analyse the laps and see what certain drivers are doing to squeeze more time out of the car. One particular point where a lot of drivers struggled was through the challenging complex of Turns 1, 2 and 3. In this case, both Max and Lando brake at around the same time, however Max turns in slightly later, allowing him to take a later apex and stay further right to get a straighter run through Turn 2.

Another thing I noticed was that Max took the first corner in 3rd gear, while Lando took it in 2nd. This would have allowed Max to get on the throttle earlier, with less risk of wheelspin and instability through Turn 2.
