McLaren 720S EVO GT3 Mount Panorama HYMO Hot Lap Analysis
Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Mount Panorama Circuit in the McLaren 720S EVO GT3 driven by HYMO.
The Track
Mount Panorama Circuit, often referred to as Bathurst, provides a fast, flowing and challenging 3.8-mile lap. Between Hell Corner, The Chase and the legendary Skyline; the track requires millimetre-perfect precision and commitment. Setup for this track can prove difficult because of this. Fortunately however, HYMO has you covered and you can get the very same setup used in this session . https://app.tracktitan.io/setup/421368b2-6ae1-41e0-a976-f7c82ac375e7
Mount Panorama Circuit is one of the most legendary tracks in the world. Staple events like the Bathurst 1000, Bathurst 6 hour and Bathurst 12 Hour attract international attention and world-class drivers to compete. The track was officially opened in 1938 though competitions had been taking place since the early 1900’s on public roads. The track has played host to many legendary moments including Greg Murphy’s Lap of the Gods, Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris’s near impossible 2014 Bathurst 1000 triumph and of course Craig Lowndes’ record-breaking run of form at the mountain. The Australian circuit, located a few hours from Sydney in New South Wales is one of the most beloved motorsport venues on Earth.
Analysis
When analysing this HYMO lap against a community lap in the Track Titan platform, we can see that over Skyline and down the Esses (Turns 9 and 10), the community driver loses 0.274s compared to the HYMO driver. In looking at the data, the majority of the time loss can be put down to braking.
From the data, we can see the community driver (in Blue) brakes harder than the HYMO driver, and then doesn’t brake enough going through the esses; causing them to take too much speed through turn 13. This causes the Blue driver to carry too much speed into the dipper (turn 14), compromising the run out of the corner. Additionally, you can see the Hymo driver (in blue) does not accelerate through the esses. This keeps the car settled and allows the driver to exit the dipper faster than the community driver.

Hot Laps Top Tips
This analysis has highlighted one fundamental technique for competitive driving and that is trail braking. Not every corner will require you to use this technique, but the simple act of not coming off the brake in the right manner has cost the community driver over two tenths of a second.
Getting your braking technique is one of the most important aspects of hot lapping. Try different levels of trail braking if necessary and find what works best for you, the car and the track.
