His passing at Imola is a sombre reminder of the risks associated with high-speed racing.
Analysis
Looking at the tricky 5-6 Chicane we can see a key moment a community driver has that kills their exit speed. Comparing the driver to the HYMO reference lap it may seem like the community driver has the upper hand into the first part of the complex. The reference driver is actually harder on the brakes and enters the first left slower, but importantly hugs the inside more. Both drivers correctly come off the brakes whilst turning and then reapply them similarly when straight. The difference is that the HYMO driver does this from further to the left of the track which helps them better set up the entry into the right.
We can see from the diff to ref graph that the time is really lost when the community driver is forced to lift on exit because of their tighter and faster entry into the second part of the chicane. This is a classic case of needing to consider a chicane as one complex not just as individual corners.

Hot Laps Top Tips
Effective throttle application in driving is about gradual and controlled power delivery. It's crucial to progressively increase throttle, particularly in rear-wheel-drive vehicles, to maintain traction. When cornering, patience is key; wait until reaching the apex before applying throttle to avoid losing grip. Always be mindful of your car's grip levels, adjusting throttle application accordingly. Smooth transitions between off and on throttle are essential for maintaining vehicle balance and control. In powerful cars, careful modulation of the throttle is necessary to manage wheelspin and ensure directional stability.
