Porsche 992 GT3 R Nurburgring HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Nurburgring in the Porsche 992 GT3 R driven by HYMO.

The Track

The Nürburgring GP circuit, situated in the lush Eifel mountains of Germany, offers a blend of history and modern racing technology. With a length of 5.148 km and 17 turns, it challenges drivers with a mix of fast straights and technical corners. Its demanding nature tests the limits of car aerodynamics and driver skill, particularly in sections like the Schumacher S and the Mercedes Arena. This circuit is separate from the daunting Nordschleife but still requires respect in its own right.

Fortunately, the HYMO setup used in this hot lap video is available for you to try HERE.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Segment 11. The final chicane of the lap has two forms, in this case we are using the high-speed option. Here is an easy one, can you spot the time loss? . . . .

The community driver simply broke too early. The overall braking period is of similar length but by braking early they arrive at the apex with a lower speed. The exit is marginally cleaner as a result, but it doe not make up for the 0.2s loss on the way in. The driver should experiment with braking markers to push the limits.

Sim Racing Top Tips

Hot lapping focuses on perfecting a single, fast lap, emphasizing the ideal racing line, braking points, and consistent lap times without the interference of other cars. It's primarily a solo exercise to master the track and improve personal performance.

In contrast, wheel-to-wheel racing involves direct competition with other drivers, requiring strategic thinking, adaptability, and defensive or offensive manoeuvres. It's not just about the fastest line but also about outmanoeuvring opponents, overtaking, and sometimes compromising the ideal line for positional advantage. This type of racing tests situational awareness and race craft.

A driver should know the difference in driving required for both of these situations for the best results.
