Porsche 992 GT3 R Silverstone HYMO Hot Lap Analysis

Let’s take a look at this hot lap of Silverstone in the Porsche 992 GT3 R driven by HYMO.

The Track

The iconic Silverstone Circuit, in the heart of the United Kingdom, is a track steeped in motorsport lore. Spanning 5.891 km with 18 turns, it's characterized by high-speed corners like Copse and the Maggots-Becketts complex. A former World War II airfield, it offers a perfect blend of speed and technicality, testing the limits of both driver and machine. The circuit is very flat, smooth and wide, making it great for high downforce cars to have some fun. The circuit will always be remembered as one of the all time classics.

Analysis

The analysis below uses the Track Titan platform to compare a HYMO reference hotlap to one of the Track Titan community drivers through Copse corner. Here we see the community driver is very close to nailing this corner but Track Titan tells us they just need to keep that minimum speed up. The cause of this difference between the reference and the community driver is the braking phase, where the community driver starts to come off the brake earlier but carries it a little too far into the apex. This maybe why they understeer slightly wide of the clipping point too as the front tyres are overloaded. The total time lost on exit is 0.1s.

Sim Racing Trivia

GT3 race cars and Formula 1 cars differ significantly in design, purpose, and performance. GT3 cars are based on production models, heavily modified for racing but still closer to street cars, with less extreme aerodynamics compared to F1 cars. They have a wider variety of makes and models, leading to diverse racing fields. In contrast, F1 cars are bespoke, high-tech single-seaters built purely for speed, featuring advanced aerodynamics and lighter weight. F1 emphasizes technological innovation, while GT3 focuses more on driver skill and close competition across different car brands.
